Watermark Media - Your LGBTQ News Source

Watermark Media was founded by Tom Dyer back in 1994. In 1998, Watermark made national news when they sought permission to hang rainbow flags throughout downtown Orlando during Gay Pride Month. While the city initially resisted the idea, they ultimately agreed. However, the controversy surrounding the decision caught the attention of televangelist Pat Robertson, who predicted that Orlando would be struck by hurricanes as punishment.

Every other Thursday, Watermark prints up to 20,000 copies of their newspaper and distributes them to over 500 locations across Orlando, Tampa Bay, Sarasota, and throughout the state of Florida. The newspaper donates over $200,000 annually in free and sponsor advertising to local and national LGBT non-profit organizations.

In 1999, Watermark launched their website, watermarkonline.com, which has won numerous awards over the years. The company now has two offices, one in Tampa Bay and another in Orlando, and employs a full-time staff, along with several part-time and freelance contributors.

In 2016, Watermark Publishing Group purchased the company from founder Tom Dyer. The new owner, Rick Claggett, is a longtime employee of Watermark Media and has also served on the boards of the Metropolitan Business Association and Come Out With Pride.
