The insurance industry is all about helping people, and LGBTQ Florida insurance agent Ashley Fox is taking that sentiment beyond her business with community support. After seeing a need in the Riverview community for school supplies, Ashley decided to give back by donating school supplies to families in need. Her efforts helped more than 100 families and made what could be a time of need a time to celebrate.

How It Started

Every great idea starts with a spark. For Ashley, that spark happened when a friend started speaking about one of the challenges low income families faced – finding school supplies. As a teacher, her friend often used her own money to buy supplies for children who didn’t have any.

In Riverview, and surrounding areas, parents don’t always have the money to pay for a long list of school supplies. While there are some programs designed to help families, those programs aren’t always easy to find. Newcomers to the area may not know where to go to find resources or community support.

As a State Farm agent, Ashley knew she had the right platform to help those in need. She decided to start a school supply drive for local families. In an effort to promote the program, she posted about it on Facebook and asked friends and family to share the details. Her post was so popular that she received more than 75 shares.

You might not think of school supplies as costly. However, the average planned back to school spending in the U.S for 2021 was over $800. Even if a family only has one child, the cost of school supplies could be enough to make them have to choose paying rent or buying groceries.

Being a Face of the Community Through Caring

Thanks to Ashley’s efforts and a giving community, more than 100 families had enough school supplies to get a great start to the 2021 school year. During a particularly challenging time, these families received a much-needed helping hand.

Ashley loves being able to give back to the community. But this isn’t the end of her good work and community support. Ashley plans to team-up with a non-profit to work on State Farm’s Quotes for Good campaign. Every time someone gets a quote from someone in Ashley’s office, money will be donated to participating non-profits!
