Tired of the same old routine and want a romantic escape with your significant other? Well, we’ve got the scoop on some fantastic romantic gay getaways in the U.S. that fly under the “gaydar.” These “not-so-familiar” places are perfect for queer couples looking to whisk away for a little love-filled adventure.

From secluded cabins tucked away in the woods to mountain vacations and coastal hideaways, these destinations have a safe, welcoming vibe for you and your partner to enjoy intimate moments just the two of you. So what are you waiting for? Pack your bags and get ready to experience LGBTQ+ romantic getaways that are a break from the ordinary. Here are our favorites!

Pocono Mountains Escape

Hidden among the trees, high up in the Pocono Mountains, is an unexpected little piece of rainbow heaven. Gay-owned Rainbow Mountain Resort, sitting on 26 private acres of land, has been serving the LGBTQ+ community for over 40 years. With rooms and cabins to fit any budget, everything you need to make romantic memories awaits you. We suggest you start your day with breakfast in The Bistro. Then, take a walk around the grounds.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you can hike one of the many nature trails where it’s just you and Mother Nature. Relax in the hot tub overlooking the pond, take a swim in the pool, soak up the sun on its deck, or just enjoy a cocktail at the pool bar. End your day under the starry night sky or dance the night away in the Hayloft Nightclub just a short walk from the pool.

Finger Lakes Wine Country on Seneca Lake

The Seneca Wine Trail runs through and around the gay-friendly town of Geneva, NY making it the perfect spot for your Finger Lakes Wine Country vacation. The trail, home to over 30 wineries, is a “day drinking experience waiting to happen.” Imagine yourselves leisurely exploring the vineyards, tasting delicious wines, and learning about the winemaking process. Beyond the wineries, you can enjoy a peaceful boat ride on Seneca Lake, or check out the town, where quaint shops, casual restaurants, and a warm and friendly atmosphere greet you. If you’re up for some adventure, hit the hiking trails and soak in the natural beauty of the area.

Accommodations in Geneva cater to all preferences, from cozy bed and breakfasts to luxurious inns. You can easily find the perfect setting for your romantic escape.

Brats and Brews Rule in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

While unfamiliar to most in the LGBTQ+ community, Milwaukee is not only Wisconsin’s largest city, but is also the place to celebrate, dance and show pride in your authentic self. The best locations in the city for accommodations for queer folks are in the Third Ward and Walker’s Point. From there, our favorite spot for brats and brews is Milwaukee Brat House. Order the German-style brat on a pretzel roll with a side of cheese curds. Exceptional!

Another choice of ours is The Vanguard. Try the “bratwurst Milwaukee style” and wash it down with a brew from their extensive beer list. Their menu also includes vegan options! Regardless of where you go, the combination of juicy bratwurst and local beers creates a mouthwatering experience that you and your partner won’t soon forget.

The “Provincetown on the Potomac”

Get ready for romance in Lost River, Virginia, known as the “Provincetown on the Potomac.” This offbeat destination is an adventure like no other, perfect for  queer couples. We suggest exploring the town’s art galleries, shops, and cafes. Here, you can be yourself and embrace the friendly, inclusive vibe that Lost River is famous for.

The real adventure, however, awaits outdoors. Surrounded by the George Washington National Forest, there are plenty of outdoor activities just for you. From hiking and horseback riding to kayaking and fishing, there’s no shortage of ways to enjoy just being with your partner. So pack your bags for an unforgettable adventure in this hidden gem on the Potomac River!

The “Paradise City” of New England

Affectionately nicknamed “Lesbianville, USA” by the National Enquirer, Northampton is a town where the entire queer community is seamlessly woven into its fabric, making it one of America’s gay-friendliest cities. Known as “Noho” by the locals, stay in any of the downtown hotels and you are steps away from the action of Main Street. You can explore a mix of art galleries, restaurants, and bars all within walking distance of each other.

When you’re ready for some outdoor adventures, take a scenic hike in the nearby Holyoke Range, or relax by the Connecticut River. If you’re up for some history, check out the Smith College Museum of Art or venture to the Emily Dickinson Museum. Northampton is the perfect blend of everything you’re looking for for romance, fun and relaxation.

Sante Fe, Where the Great Outdoors Awaits

Embrace the beauty of the great outdoors in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Get started by exploring the landscapes that surround it. Hike through the trails of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, hand in hand with your partner, and take some deep breaths of the fresh mountain air. Don’t forget to pack a picnic and enjoy a secluded lunch with breathtaking views as your backdrop.

Santa Fe’s mix of nature, art, and culinary scene makes for an unforgettable, romantic getaway in the great southwest.

Small-Town Charm & Midwestern Hospitality

“Small-town charm and Midwestern hospitality” take center stage, and best describe the quaint town of LGBTQ+ friendly Galena, IL. We recommend you stay at the gay-owned Aldrich Guest House, a five-bedroom bed and breakfast just five minutes away from Main Street. It’s the perfect location to begin your adventure, as you wander along this historic street lined with shops and boutiques. You can find everything from antiques to artisanal chocolates.

Indulge in a romantic meal in one of Main Street’s restaurants, where you can have a taste of Midwestern comfort food. After your meal, explore the beautifully preserved 19th-century homes and museums. If you love nature, venture out to the scenic parks and trails surrounding the town. When night falls, take a Galena Ghost Tour. It’s the perfect opportunity to snuggle up with your love.

One of the 10 Queerest Cities in the U.S.

The Marmalade District is the anchor of the LGBTQ+ community in Salt Lake City, where the rainbow flags fly and there are plenty of LGBTQ+ owned businesses, making it the place for you to stay. You can spend your day exploring the city’s sights, shopping, or delving into the region’s history. For a different-kind-of adventure, rent a bike or scooter downtown. Cruise along and take in the street art, admire the architecture, and make pit stops at local bars and restaurants.

The beauty of Alaska provides “kissable moments” for you and your partner on the ship’s deck, where you can sip cocktails and watch the world go by. During your voyage, explore charming Alaskan towns and cities, from the streets of Ketchikan to the capital city of Juneau. Engage with the locals, sample fresh seafood, and discover hidden gems in your ports of call. Olivia’s Alaska cruise is a chance to connect with nature and, more importantly, each other.

Pack your RV, rev up the engine, and hit the road for a fun-filled and romantic escape to the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Georgia. Cruising through the winding roads of these mountains, you encounter amazing views at every turn. The rolling hills and forests create a peaceful backdrop as you and your partner enjoy just spending time on the road together. Along the way, you can stop at small towns like Ellijay and Blue Ridge for a taste of local southern charm. There, you can explore local markets, enjoy the region’s indigenous foods, and connect with queer-friendly locals.

Once you “set up camp,” hike through the forested trails hand in hand, discovering hidden waterfalls and panoramic scenic spots. For a little romance, set up a campfire under the night sky to roast marshmallows, and maybe do a little star gazing.
