Celebrate Special Occasions in Stone Mountain at the Atlanta Evergreen Lakeside Resort

Atlanta Evergreen Lakeside Resort at Stone Mountain Park

Share the Love

When my close friend Jennifer called to tell me that she and her wife Marty were expecting twins, I decided to arrange a girl’s weekend getaway in Stone Mountain, Georgia, far from the hustle and bustle of city life. After all, twins would bring plenty of hustle and bustle into their lives in the months to come. While Stone Mountain has a controversial history, I knew that recent leadership changes had created more inclusive experiences for travelers of all backgrounds, including our LGBTQ+ community. And after seeing photos of Stone Mountain, its accommodation options and the list of activities offered, I was confident that it would be the perfect place for a babymoon getaway. And it was!

Stone Mountain, thirty minutes from Atlanta, is notably marked by its massive rock relief, the largest Confederate monument in the U.S., completed in 1972, depicting Confederate leaders Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, and Stonewall Jackson. This site has been a contentious symbol, reflecting the area’s historical ties to the Confederacy and the legacy of the Civil War. For minority travelers, this monument and the park’s history of hosting Ku Klux Klan gatherings can evoke a complex blend of feelings, including discomfort and a reminder of a painful past.

Fortunately, times are changing. Under the oversight of Justin Williams, Area Managing Director over Stone Mountain’s accommodations, Stone Mountain is breaking new ground in promoting inclusivity. By focusing on making luxury travel accessible to all, Williams is helping to transform the area into a welcoming destination for diverse visitors, signaling a shift towards a more inclusive and reconciled future for Stone Mountain.

Families from diverse backgrounds will find plenty of enjoyment with the array of outdoor adventures and child-friendly activities available. It’s also a romantic escape for couples, while friends find the resort’s rooms and on-site dining just right for making memories. Whether it be for business or planning a wedding, the Resort’s conference and event facilities are second to none.

Guests are never at a loss for things to do here.  Guests can play golf, hike one of the nature trails, or bike along the paved roadways inside the park. Plus, there’s a pool to cool off in and a spa to kick back, relax, and enjoy some “me” time. Looking to chill, explore, or get some work done? The staff goes above and beyond to make sure every guest feels like a VIP. Read on to discover everything you need to know before you explore Stone Mountain Park and the Atlanta Evergreen Lakeside Resort.

Where To Stay

Stone Mountain offers a variety of lodging choices, catering to different preferences and experiences. Imagine starting your day with the breathtaking view of Stone Mountain just outside your resort window. Or enjoy your morning coffee by the lake in a cozy yurt. If you prefer a more independent and rustic adventure, consider bringing your RV or pitching a tent. Families looking for fun and comfort might opt for a stay at the Inn, packed with activities for everyone. The Atlanta Evergreen at Stone Mountain is an ideal retreat, offering the perfect mix of natural beauty and recreational options. Whether you prefer the charm of a southern-style inn, the amenities of a full-service resort, or the freedom of sleeping under the stars, you’ll find the perfect accommodation to suit your taste.

Atlanta Evergreen Resort

Featuring newly renovated rooms and suites where luxury meets comfort, Atlanta Evergreen has six types of guest rooms all with private, walk-out balconies overlooking either the pool or the lake. Having all of the modern amenities you would expect, this family-friendly, pet-friendly resort is just steps away from Georgia’s great outdoors and Stone Mountain State Park. Your stay includes a 50% discount on a two-day pass to all of the attractions in the park.

This is where we stayed during our babymoon girlfriend getaway. I had the biggest of the penthouse-style rooms, referred to as Evergreen Suites. My room included two bedrooms, a kitchenette, dining room/board room space, a cozy living room with fireplace, and the unit was at the end of the hotel, overlooking everything – Stone Mountain, the pool, the lake and the even the yurts across the water. I enjoyed 270 degrees of breathtaking views all day long.

The moms-to-be stayed in one of the smaller, but still spacious Evergreen Suites and were greeted with balloons along with a gift certificate for a couple’s massage. Yvette was accommodated in a similar suite and enjoyed her solocation experience. And we were all greeted with a hand-written note from Justin and a locally-sourced charcuterie tray, along gifts from LGBTQ-owned YeahBuzzy.

OutCoast Tip: Don’t be afraid to ask for special requests, whether is be a surprise for a birthday girl, a bachelor or a parent-to-be!

The Inn

While we didn’t get to explore the Inn, if it’s convenience you want, The Inn gives you easy access to all of Stone Mountain Park’s events and attractions as well as its 15 miles of nature trails. With spacious rooms perfect for families, an outdoor swimming pool, and patios for relaxing in the mountain air, it’s just a short walk to all that Stone Mountain Park has to offer.

Yurt Sites & Campsites

While there, I requested a tour of the camping options, and all I can say is “wow!” If you’re more of the outdoorsy type, then book a yurt site and campsite. The views don’t disappoint. Yurts are circular tents that come equipped with “the essentials,” making it a more luxurious form of camping, often called “glamping.” On the other hand, the park’s campsites are more for the “traditional” camper. All yurt sites and campsites are located within the park and provide easy access to attractions, hiking trails, and nature sights. With spots for tents, RVs, and everything in between, it’s the perfect way to “get back to nature.”

Where To Eat

Treat yourself to delicious meals, amazing Stone Mountain views, and maybe even shoot some pool after a day of exploration and fun. From grab-and-go meals to more formal sit down dinners, you can enjoy classic southern dishes with a creative flair throughout the property.

The Waterside Restaurant

Casual and laid-back, yet sophisticated, The Waterside Restaurant is buffet dining at its best. Serving up all of your favorite comfort foods, with a bird’s-eye view of Mother Nature’s beauty through its many windows, The Waterside is open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The Tavern

Located downstairs at Atlanta Evergreen Lakeside Resort, The Tavern invites you to unwind and enjoy upscale pub fare, craft beers, and classic cocktails. Grab a bite to eat, shoot a game of pool, or enjoy a game at the bar. For a special dessert experience, ask to enjoy a s’mores experience fireside.

The Commons Restaurant

The Commons Restaurant, in the clubhouse of Stone Mountain Golf Club, is the perfect pit stop after a day of outdoor adventures or a round of golf. With both indoor and outdoor seating, The Commons serves classic pub favorites alongside a selection of local beers on tap.

Rock’s Pool Bar & Grill

Looking for some fun in the sun? Grab your suit, flip flops, and sunscreen and head to Rock’s Pool Bar & Grill. Relax poolside where you can order a burger, salad, appetizer, or sandwich, handcrafted cocktails, wines, and beers from this self-described “Southern-chic tavern.”

Mountain Brew Cafe

“The best part of waking up is Starbucks in your cup.” At the Mountain Brew Cafe, Starbucks is always on tap. You can add a freshly-baked muffin, pastry, sandwich, or salad, along with other grab-and-go items as you head out for a day of exploration, discovery, and adventure.

Things to Do at Stone Mountain Park

Famous for the enormous rock face that gives the park its name, Stone Mountain Park is an outdoor playground just waiting for you to come play. There are historic homes to wander through, museums that tell the stories of the area, and crafts demonstrations that take you back in time. The park is also filled with fun stuff like a cable car to the top of the mountain, a historic train that chugs around the park, and even a putt putt golf course. It’s non-stop fun where you never run out of things to see and do.

Scenic Railroad

All aboard! Kick back and enjoy the sights and sounds of Stone Mountain Park on a full-size locomotive. It’s a great way to see different parts of the park while hearing fun facts about the area. Whether you’re a lover of train rides, or just looking for a chill way to spend part of your day, this ride is a hit for all ages.

Great Locomotive Chase Adventure Golf

The Great Locomotive Chase Adventure Golf turns mini-golf into a thrilling chase through history. Each hole tells a part of the famous Civil War story, making your putt-putt game a mini history lesson. With fun challenges and cool designs, this golf course is fun for families, friends, or anyone up for a little competitive fun mixed with a little education.

Music Across America Drone & Light Show

Lighting up the night sky with an amazing display of drones and lights, and choreographed to classic American tunes, it’s like a Fourth of July celebration. Grab a blanket, sit back, and watch the sky “dance to the music” as it turns into a canvas of colors and shapes. It’s a modern, high-tech twist on fireworks, but without the loud booms.

Historic Square: A Collection of Georgia Homes & Antiques

Like a time machine that takes you back to Georgia’s past, wander through historic homes filled with antiques, each telling its own story about life back then. It’s a fascinating walk through history, great for anyone curious about the days of old or how people lived before the inventions of everyday, modern conveniences.

Sky Hike

It’s part obstacle course, part high-wire act, and totally fun. Sky Hike challenges you to an adventure high in the trees, with rope bridges, swings, and towering platforms. You’re safely harnessed in, so you can test your balance and bravery as you move from tree to tree. With different levels of difficulty, it’s an exciting activity that gives you a bird’s eye view of the park.

Yogi Bear 4D Theater Experience

Be “smarter than the average bear” as the Yogi Bear 4D Experience brings everyone’s favorite picnic-basket-stealing bear to life. Combining 4D film technology with real-world physical effects, you feel like you’re right inside Jellystone Park with Yogi and his pals. Perfect for families and Yogi fans, it’s a laugh-filled adventure that makes you a part of the action.

Stone Mountain Golf Club

Get your clubs, golf balls, and shoes for a round of golf on your choice of two championship courses, the Lakemont and the Stonemont. The Lakemont Course, with its many water hazards, winds around Stone Mountain Lake requiring pinpoint accurate shots. The Stonemont Course on the other hand, has a more classic layout with narrow fairways and large greens. Both courses have meticulously maintained fairways and greens that blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscapes.

Spa Services

The property itself doesn’t have a spa onsite but they work with local LGBTQ+ friendly massage and wellness professionals to customize guest experiences.
