St. Petersburg, Florida is a rather slow-paced city with a fast-growing LGBTQ+ population. Its gay bars are a nice mix of high-energy clubs and no-frills lounges. Stretching along Central Avenue between 16th and 31st streets, is the Grand Central District, a.k.a. the “gayborhood.” It’s here you find most of the gay and gay-friendly bars in the city. COCKtail St. Pete

2355 Central Avenue, St. Petersburg

Specializing in “stiff” drinks and “hard” liquor, COCKtail St. Pete, is in the heart of St. Pete’s gayborhood. Here, drag shows, gay sing-alongs, leather nights, and all sorts of fun are always on the menu. You find a mixed crowd of gay men and lesbians all with a single thought in mind – to have a good time. Did we mention they have a pool? The Wet Spot is where you can enjoy the sun, lay by the pool, go for a swim, have lunch and cocktails, or just enjoy the “scenery” and a beverage delivered by speedo-clad servers.

LuvHer Lounge

The LuvHer Lounge is transforming the social landscape for the sapphic community in St. Pete by hosting LuvHer Lounge Events.” These innovative pop-up parties mark the city’s first venture into pop-up lesbian bars. The company partners with local establishments to host these pop-up parties, and has seen a steady increase in attendance, underscoring the community’s enthusiasm. The plan is to continue this momentum by holding LoveHer Lounge Events bi-monthly, catering to the spectrum of queer female identities. Then LuvHer Lounge also hosts LuvHer Sober events for an alcohol-free social setting.

Enigma

1110 Central Avenue, St. Petersburg

Located in St. Pete’s EDGE District, Enigma is a hot spot for St. Pete’s gay community. Open every night, it’s got something for everyone. With great DJs, an impressive sound system and light show, two bars, and great drink specials, it’s the perfect place for a daytime hang with friends or a night-time “dance the night away” spot. Complete with pool tables, a dart board, and an outdoor seating for smokers, check out Enigma next time you’re in the area.

The Garage On Central

2729 Central Avenue, St. Petersburg

The Garage on Central, right in the heart of the Grand Central District, is where you want to stop for a cold one or two. It’s low-key, low-lit, and laid back, with a garage-like atmosphere. Decorated with most things you find in a garage like diecast cars and license plates, it’s where you can go to shoot pool, throw darts, watch a game, or just hang out with your friends. Their weekly karaoke night is where the singer in you can unleash your inner diva.

Salty Nun

Calling all the ladies! While not officially a lesbian bar, the Salty Nun definitely leans that way with its lesbian entertainment lineups and queer women ownership. It’s a restaurant by day and outdoor club by night in The Grand Central District. Serving brunch, lunch and late night drinks, the Salty Nun is a great place to grab a bite, have a drink, watch a game, or just hang out with the girls. 

Lucky Star Lounge

2760 Central Avenue

Considered by many to be “the best kept secret in the district,” the Grand Central District, that is, the Lucky Star Lounge has happy hour seven days a week. While some might call it a social club, it’s really just your neighborhood bar. Kind of like Cheers, where everybody knows your name, but there’s a good chance you can meet someone new. Its outdoor patio, friendly bartenders, and welcoming vibe are what keep you coming back.

With its selection of more than 250 different shots, this downtown bar combines the art of mixology with the fun of a night out. The Dog Bar

Traveling with a four-legged family member? The Dog Bar is where pet lovers can enjoy a drink while their furry friends play. A  mix between an off-leash dog park and a full-service bar, it includes areas for both high-energy play and chill time for low-energy pups. The park area is fully equipped with misting fans, ice pools, and heaters to keep the pups comfortable no matter what the weather.

Alphabet Soup is a BYOB lesbian-owned and operated members-only club for the LGBTQ+ community in Gulfport. “You supply the liquor, we make and serve the drink. Simple!” according to the club’s social media pages. There’s an annual fee for membership as well as a daily entry cover charge.

Pro Shop Pub, Clearwater

840 Cleveland Street, Clearwater

Its claim to fame is that it’s the oldest gay bar in Tampa Bay. You don’t want to miss this place, although you might if you drive too fast on Cleveland Street. It’s an easy-to-miss “brick and glass block with only Pro Shop in neon lights.” Its low-key vibe and down-to-earth attitude are the charms that keep you coming back again and again.

Blur Nightclub, Dunedin

325 Main Street, Dunedin 

Located on the main drag in the beautiful town of Dunedin, Blur Nightclub adds a trendy vibe to an otherwise laid-back, LGBTQ+ friendly retirement town. In business since 2007, this upbeat nightclub features DJ-fueled dance parties, live bands, karaoke nights & themed events.

Quench Lounge, Largo

13284 66th St. N, Largo

Quench Lounge is self-described as a “trendy, alternative bar in Central Pinellas”. From trivia nights to karaoke to black light parties to drag shows, Quench produces some of the sexiest and most exciting LGBTQ+ events in the city. It’s also the perfect bar to visit to avoid downtown St. Pete.
