Nude sunbathing in Florida is a common pastime for locals and tourists, but not every spot is suitable for baring it all. From murky legality to less-than-respectful onlookers, nude sunbathers have quite a few things to consider before disrobing.

Lucky for you, we’ve sifted through the many clothing-optional beaches in FL for the best of the best. There’s no need to search for “nude beaches near me” and roll the dice – just keep reading to learn about the best places to sunbathe while nude in Florida. We also go through a few basic etiquette rules for first-timers.

Etiquette When Going To A Topless Beach In Florida

Whether you’re a first-time naturist or an experienced nude sunbather looking for a “nude beach near me”, you must familiarize yourself with a few basic rules. After all, nobody comes to a nudist beach in Florida to feel uncomfortable and unsafe.

Here are a few things you’ll need to know before disrobing on a topless beach in Florida:

Be Respectful

Respect is the number one thing you need to be aware of when visiting a nude beach in Florida.

Many people come to these clothing-optional vacation spots to unwind and explore their connection with nature regardless of race, gender, and sexuality. That means all sunbathers must avoid lewd acts (by themselves or with a partner), keep their distance from other visitors, avoid staring, and focus on their own experiences.

Learn The Rules

Generally speaking, it’s illegal to publicly expose yourself in the state of Florida under most circumstances. However, designated nude beaches are the exception to the rule.

Not every beach in Florida is a nude beach, and sunbathers must learn the distinction. We recommend thoroughly researching each beach, including where the property line ends and begins.

No Staring

A big part of going au naturel at a beach is reconnecting with nature, and nudity is the most natural thing in the world. This means no gawking at the other nudists on the beach – it makes people feel uncomfortable and self-conscious. If keeping your eyes off other sunbathers is a problem, you may want to reevaluate your choice to visit a nude beach.

Don’t Take Pictures

Nobody wants to be photographed in the nude without their consent. Even if you have no intention of snapping a photo of other sunbathers, you might still get other people in your shot.

It’s best to play it safe and leave your cameras at home. Most people come to nude beaches to unwind, and having cameras around may make them uncomfortable.

The Best Nudist Beaches In Florida

Florida has plenty to offer travelers and locals, including nude or clothing-optional beaches. Here are our favorite options for folks who prefer their birthday suits to bathing suits.

Haulover Beach

10800 Collins Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33154

Haulover beach is one of Florida’s most famous (and oldest) nude beaches. Located between Miami and Fort Lauderdale, this beachy getaway is known for its welcoming atmosphere and incredible sandy beaches that host visitors from all walks of life. Outdoor rinsing showers and restrooms are easily accessible throughout the property.

LGBTQ guests, in particular, may find Haulover Beach an astonishingly convenient stop for a gay-friendly vacation, too. It’s close to a clothing-optional LGBTQ-friendly guesthouse and a few inclusive nightclubs.

Miami South Beach

South Beach, Miami Beach, FL 33139

This nude beach in South Florida has a colorful community, and we’re not just referring to the dozens of gay-run establishments and neighborhoods flanking it. Miami’s South Beach has gone from decrepit and sketchy to a popular topless getaway in the city for the LGBTQ community.

However, there is one main drawback to South Beach compared to the other options on this list: the beach isn’t completely “clothing-optional” – you cannot be 100% naked. Instead, visitors may go topless when relaxing on the white sandy beaches of Miami.

Playalinda Beach

Playalinda Beach, Orlando, FL 32815

Playalinda Beach is an isolated seaside haven along the Cape Canaveral National Seashore. Just a few meters from the coast is a vast swath of greenery that connects to a popular hiking trail, making for a unique experience for visitors.

However, inexperienced sunbathers must note that, because Playalinda is relatively isolated, there are no amenities outside of a few bathrooms. So, bring everything you’ll need for a comfortable visit.

Playalinda Beach is not an “official” nude beach, but it’s located on federal land. That means you’re free to sunbathe naked as long as you’re not bothering other guests.

Apollo Beach In New Smyrna

7611 South Atlantic Avenue, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32169

Nude sunbathing around strangers can be pretty intimidating the first few times, and that’s why so many new nudists head to remote havens like Apollo Beach. Like Playlinda, this beach is flanked by gorgeous vegetation and is home to several trails and attractions deeper inland. However, take note that insects tend to gather by the treeline during summer.

That said, Apollo Beach is still a great place for nude sunbathers. There’s lots of space to set up with friends and family along the shore during low tide. The guests are very respectful and generally keep to themselves, too.

Blind Creek

5460 S Ocean Dr, Fort Pierce, FL 34949

If you’re looking for a more natural-feeling nude beach that’s still relatively secluded from the hustle and bustle of the city, then Blind Creek Beach might just be the place for you. There are close to zero amenities, and visitors are greeted with a gleaming expanse of sand, trees, and a deep blue sea.

But what sets Blind Creek Beach apart from other clothing-optional beaches is the community it attracts. Visitors are given baskets to pick up trash, meaning the sand is spotless most of the time. On top of this, Blink Creek Beach is very LGBTQ-friendly, with many queer couples and singles coming to relax in the nude.

Cypress Cove Nudist Resort

4425 Pleasant Hill Rd, Kissimmee, FL 34746

This next entry on our list isn’t quite a beach – instead, it’s a lakeside resort that aims to be a wholesome nudist haven for people from all walks of life. While you don’t have access to the sea like other options on this list, Cypress Cove Nudist Resort does offer an impressive nudist-only lakeside experience.

What’s more, the resort is built on a philosophy of nudity being non-sexual, which means that guests and patrons are usually friendly without encroaching upon your boundaries.

St. Lucie Inlet

4810 SE Cove Rd, Stuart, FL 34997

St. Lucie Inlet is the best of the best when it comes to secluded nude sunbathing because this little slice of paradise is only accessible by boat. Because of the necessary trek, only serious nude sunbathers are likely to make the trip. That means you’ll be relaxing au naturel with only the most respectful of guests who prize their privacy as much as you do.

However, because there’s only one way to access the St. Lucie Inlet, we recommend setting up a little further away from the main entrance to avoid running into too many people.

Final Thoughts On Clothing-Optional Beaches In Florida

The Sunshine State is home to some of the best nude beaches in North America. Some are secluded little getaways only visited by other naturists, while others are more commercialized and open to the general public. Whether you’re comfortable disrobing on the bustling South Beach in Miami or prefer the quiet calm of Apollo Beach, there’s a spot for everyone out on the Floridian shores.

But there’s more to Florida than just the beaches. Check out our other guides on OutCoast to learn more about the Sunshine State’s comprehensive travel guides!
